Beijing Capital International Airport is to the northeast of the city, 35 km to downtown and 25 km to the proposed site of Congress venue. Taxi is always available at the airport whenever there are flights, and there are shuttle buses from the airport to the main points of the city every half hour. The cost of a taxi from the airport to the congress site or congress hotels is about 120 yuan, or US$ 15. Airport pick-up will be arranged before the start of the congress on August 16-17, 2002 at a reasonable cost for the convenience of the delegates.

There are 65,000 taxicabs running on Beijing's streets, and there are three rates applying to three different models of cars: 1.20 yuan per kilometer for the minivan, 1.60 yuan and 2.00 yuan for the regular car. These rates apply only to the starting few kilometers, then 50% more will be added to every kilometer.

At the congress site, taxi can be easily found, and there are also bus stops around the area. For example, there is a double-decker bus line going to downtown, an air-conditioned bus line going through downtown to the Temple of Heaven, and several bus routes going to different parts of the city and to the subway stations. As bus conductors speak only Chinese, taxi seems to be the most convenient and the fastest.
